Annual EBA Award Nominations

Each year, the Evansville Bar Association recognizes individuals who exemplify excellence, service, professionalism, and commitment to our legal community. Awards are presented during the EBA’s annual Law Day Celebration.

The deadline to submit nominations is April 5 each year.

The EBA Awards Committee reviews all nominations and selects the recipient of each award based upon the criteria established for that award.

Nominations remain active for two years following submission, so a nominee may be considered in both the year submitted and the following year.

Questions about the awards or nomination process? Contact the Evansville Bar Association at eba@evvbar.org or (812) 463-3201.

James Bethel Gresham Freedom Award

The purpose of Law Day is to remind people throughout the country of the importance of the law and the role that it plays in our lives and in the basic freedoms we all cherish and enjoy.  The James Bethel Gresham Freedom Award was established by the EBA to recognize and honor individuals who have distinguished themselves in activities or careers which have elevated respect for the law, promoted freedom, or otherwise furthered the ideals for which Law Day is recognized and celebrated.  This award is named in honor of James Bethel Gresham who lived in Evansville from 1901 to 1914 and is believed to have been the first American soldier to have given his life in combat during World War I.
