Black's Law Dictionary (yes, you read that correctly) defines "benchslap" as follows: "A judge's sharp rebuke of counsel, a litigant, or perhaps another judge, esp., a scathing remark from a judge or magistrate to an attorney after an objection from opposing counsel has been sustained." However it's defined, no one wants to be on the receiving end of one. In this seminar, we'll examine some of the most memorable benchslaps in recent years and discuss how we can benchslap-proof our own advocacy.
