Essential Functions:

1. Review all Rating Decisions, case plans, doctor statements, briefs.

2. Answer questions posed by case managers and clients.

3. Assist with client contact when the need arises.

4. Help co-manage and co-train staff that assist with your case load.

5. Attend VA conferences to maintain legal competency and CLE requirements.

Qualifications and Education Requirements:

A license to practice law in any US state. Proof of good standing required.

Preference for 1) attorney who has experience with VA disability compensation (accredited by the Department of Veterans’ Affairs also a plus); or 2) attorney who has experience with Social Security disability compensation.

Come check out how DCS is growing and changing!  Each Local Office Attorney (LOA) provides legal advice and legal services to county offices and other DCS staff on juvenile law matters relating to all manners of child welfare. The LOA will be responsible for representing the State in trial work regarding Child In Need of Services (CHINS) cases, Termination of Parental Rights (TPR), adoptions, foster care licensing actions, and other general legal issues relating to the safety of children. The LOA also represents and assists the DCS in administrative appeal matters. Minimum salary for this classification is $61,022, with additional compensation awarded commensurate with years as a practicing attorney.
