Stoll Keenon Ogden PLLC is seeking a Paralegal for its Evansville, Indiana office to join a team of attorneys and staff.  Under general supervision and according to established policies and procedures, performs a variety of duties for the assigned practice group.  Maintains positive contact with clients, attorneys and staff and observes confidentiality of client matters. This position is non-exempt. 

 DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:  

  • Operates a computer with high proficiency.

  • Analyzes legal documents and prepares reports.  

  • Ability to recognize issues and understand and recognize ethical constraints. 

  • Communicates research results through verbal or written skills to attorneys and other paralegals.  

  • Organizes and prioritizes task as required.  

  • Prepare federal Gift and Estate tax returns.  

  • Complete life insurance claim forms and stock liquidation requests. 

  • Prepare and e-file court pleadings to open and administer a probate estate.

  • Collect account information from banks, brokerage firms, etc.

  • Works closely with other support staff.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

  • Ability to read and write in order to proof and perform minor editing (e.g., punctuation, grammar, spelling) of routine law office correspondence and legal case matters.

  • Must have a paralegal degree, paralegal certificate or paralegal experience.

  • Ability to organize and prioritize numerous tasks and complete them under time constraints. Ability to handle multiple assignments.

  • Interpersonal skills necessary in order to communicate and follow instructions effectively from a diverse group of clients, attorneys and staff and provide information with courtesy and tact.

  • Interpersonal skills necessary in order to communicate by phone and provide information with courtesy and tact.

  • Work occasionally requires a high level of mental effort and strain while producing a high volume of information performing other essential duties.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:  This position requires sitting for the majority of the work day. May lift up to 5 – 10 lbs.

WORKING HOURS:  Must work 8:30 – 5:00 Monday through Friday unless other schedules are pre-approved. Work occasionally requires more than 37.5 hours per week to perform the essential duties of the position; may require irregular hours. Upon approval by members of the practice group, some work may be performed remotely.

The Vanderburgh County Public Defender Agency in Evansville, Indiana has an immediate opening for a full-time attorney to handle cases referred to the office by the Vanderburgh Circuit and Superior Courts. DCS is seeking a Local Office Attorney (LOA) for Vanderburgh county.  The LOA provides legal advice and legal services to Central Office, county offices and/or DCS staff for juvenile law matters relating to child welfare, child support, and personnel matters. The LOA also represents and assists the DCS in administrative and court matters. The LOA will be responsible for representing the State in Child In Need of Services (CHINS) cases, Termination of Parental Rights (TPR), adoptions, foster care licensing actions, and other general legal issues relating to the safety of children.  This individual will work closely with the client to prepare for court hearings and may serve as legal counsel for internal employment issues. The minimum salary for this classification is $61,022. Additional compensation is awarded commensurate with years as a practicing attorney.
